Hiking around Montbrun-les-Bains

A hiker’s El Dorado? Yes, without a shadow of a doubt. And if your imagination lets you down, we can point you to a number of excellent routes.

Among the lavender fields

Just picture it: hiking across the lavender fields, breathing in the scent of a lavender distillery in season, or watching the lavender being harvested by hand.

Beyond the lavender the countryside is overwhelmingly beautiful, and the villages along the way are the perfect answer to the rush of modern life.

We highly recommend the routes through the Toulourenc valley, formed by the river of the same name that is either a torrent or a gentle stream: “toul ou renc”, all or nothing. Such a walk can end in Brantes, higher up, with surroundings and an auberge you could only wish for at that moment.

Through the Toulourenc gorges

The gorges of the Toulourenc are beautiful. The river is the border between the Drôme and the Vaucluse here, close to Mollans-sur-Ouvèze and Malaucène. This is a walk through the water that is also great fun with the whole family. It is wonderfully cool in the water on a hot August day, though in high summer it can get very busy.

From the bridge you walk upstream along the river, through small gorges with beautiful blue water. Then you reach a group of rocks you have to climb over. You can go there and back through the water, or return along the GR91, which is often very warm in high summer.

Do not do this walk when it rains or looks like rain: the water can suddenly rise, above all in a thunderstorm. The rocks can be slippery, so take special care with small children.
